The billing codes

D6010 surgical placement of the implant body, D6057 custom abutment, D6058 abutment-supported porcelain crown.

Why the number varies

The three-code total is what people mean by "the cost of an implant". Quotes that look far cheaper are usually pricing D6010 alone. Note that our source publishes two different national averages for a single implant in two different guides, $2,143 on its single-tooth implant guide and $2,695 on its tooth-replacement overview, and describes a separate, higher $4,344 average for "endosteal implants, standard, per tooth" on its procedure cost list. We show the single-tooth guide figure because it is the one published against this exact procedure, and we flag the disagreement rather than averaging it away.

Costs in your state

No state index is published yet. A state gets a page once at least 3 individually sourced figures back it, and none has reached that bar, so the figure above is national. See the methodology for how states get built.

Frequently asked questions

Why do implant quotes differ so much for the same tooth?

A quote may cover only the implant post, or the post plus abutment and crown, and the two are different products with different prices. Ask which CDT codes are on the treatment plan: D6010 is the post, D6057 the abutment, D6058 the crown.

Does dental insurance pay for an implant?

Coverage varies by plan and many plans that do cover implants apply an annual maximum that a single implant can exhaust. Check your plan documents or ask your insurer for the benefit in writing before treatment.
