Dental Implant Estimate

How much does a tooth extraction before an implant cost?

Billed under CDT D7210. Compiled by Kindred Works LLC editorial.

National cost

RangeAmount
Low$281
Typical$363
High$702

What is included

Surgical removal of the tooth that the implant will replace.

What is not

Any graft placed into the socket at the same visit, which is billed under its own code.

The billing codes

D7210 extraction, erupted tooth requiring removal of bone and/or sectioning of tooth.

Why the number varies

D7210 is the surgical extraction code, and these are the surgical-extraction figures. A straightforward non-surgical extraction (D7140) is a different, cheaper code: the same source puts that at $177 on average, ranging $137 to $835. We price the surgical figure here because an extraction done to clear the way for an implant is usually the surgical one.

Costs in your state

No state index is published yet. A state gets a page once at least 3 individually sourced figures back it, and none has reached that bar, so the figure above is national. See the methodology for how states get built.

Frequently asked questions

Can the implant go in the same day as the extraction?

Sometimes, and sometimes not. Whether immediate placement is possible depends on the bone and the state of the socket, which only the treating dentist can assess.
